bye bye july

It's been a while since I posted, the new job is not too internet friendly. Btw the new job is about to become the old job as today is my last day. I want to jump in the air with joy! But that's another story…

Saturday I met the girls for coffee at vida e caffe. I had a minor disagreement with one of the staff when I took a pic of my porro roll. The jist of it is that they are not serving the dinkum vida e rolls and they don't want evidence! Nice one, yet again Durban gets the ass end.

I spent the rest of the day at the Uprising festival at the Wavehouse. It was a really long day considering I had had a few too many tequilas the night before. Saw some cool bands (a LOT of punk) and Corné and Twakkie did a number too. Thats the short of it.

Sunday I spent 2 hours at the bank and tried to defrost my fridge. I had an iceberg that could have sunk the titanic in there! It wouldn't melt and I eventually had to rip it out with brute strength.

I am gonna be offline for a while, I'm taking some extended ME time, but I will try pop in and blog when I get a chance.

Ooh ooh! The Apple iStore opens this weekend. I may just be one of the mullets in the queue in the hope of getting a fat discount off my Macbook Pro…

hot stones and apple crumble

I had another looong week. I honestly thought it would never end… I had plans to go see Pan's Labyrinth on friday but due to insane hayfever (sleepy, dopey, grumpy, sneezy) I gave in and hired a DVD instead. I got A Very Long Engagement, its by the same guy who made Amelie. It was charming - though there was a brief moment in a middle where I seemed to doze off. Sad old lady!
Saturday morning I went to the Bliss Spa (next to the Breathing Space) and had a Hot Stone massage. I was really looking forward to it as I had never been for a massage EVER. It was really lovely and relaxing, bliss, bliss, bliss. Apparently I carry a lot of tension in my arms and legs (read: my WHOLE body is tense). There were I few moments that I yelped from the heat of the stones (note: it is called HOT stone massage, not WARM stone massage). Next time I'm sticking to an ordinary neck, back and shoulders. No poker hot pebbles!
Saturday night I headed off to Manna with my sis for 'Sofasogood', and evening of board games and drinkys and food and bonfire thingys and juggler type guys and music and art and couches for sale. Thanks to B for being the social event guru, what would we do without her? Sadly I never took my camera, but it was such a divine evening. Just what I was missing in Durban. I can't wait to do it again…
Sunday I slept in and then took a ride past the nearest Mastercars to see what they have in stock. Shoot, this car buying nonsense is so confusing. New/Old, 1400/1600, VW/Not VW. Things looked up when my sister cooked a yummy pea soup for lunch and made an apple and pear crumble for dessert. Yum.

I had a awesome weekend in Jozi! Things started out a little tricky: my flight was delayed 4 hours, the GPS took us straight through the centre of the city, we were very late for our dinner reservations… But things perked up after that.
We had a great dinner at Soulsa in Melville. In fact, we took over in the way that we do. There tequila s
hooters everywhere we looked, we were buying rounds for the owner and chef and the waiters. But we must been fun because when we moved onto Fuel Bar, we had a bit of an entourage! We even had a dog (yes, four legged furry animal) come along. Fuel was fun, drank a few too many dirty martinis and admired the beautiful boys until the club closed and we had to sadly go home. So to make up for that, we stayed up chatting until 5.30am.
Saturday was long and painful. Loooong and painful. Words cannot express the hangovers we experienced. There was a point walking through Sandton City that I had to do some serious deep breathing to survive. A raspberry sorbet Haagen Daz helped matters slightly. We went home and had a lay down before heading off to the Live Earth Concert.
Let's see Live Earth in a nutshell…
Great prego rolls, amazingly energetic Baba Maal, cool Zola, soulful Vusi, predictable Parlotone
s, Angelique was a firecracker, Joss was stoned, UB40 are what they are. Other highlights were the plastic bag skit on the big screen. I will try find it on the web. I'm glad I went, but I still wish we had bigger international acts… Oh, and try to use recycled toilet paper if you can.

UPDATE: I found a link to one of the Live Earth skits done by Airside. Check it out, great illustration and funny too!

Saturday we milled around Melville before meeting up with Angel at Orient in Melrose Arch. Had some yummy dim sum and the ubiquitious Green Destiny. We then sidled off the the hotel for coffee in the library - very posh…
It was a fun weekend, and the girls and I were all very patient and considerate of each other. No frie
ndships were harmed this weekend :-)

the latest

So here I am first week into my new JOB. Its very different to what I am used to, but its a cool enviroment and the people are really nice. Only downside is that my car was stolen yesterday from outside the premises. What a pain! I kinda had a feeling it would happen - golf on a quiet road, but not on Day 2…
So I am without car, and now have to look into purchasing a new one.

Otherwise, what got me through the weekend:

Delicatessan (not at all what I expected)
Season 1 of Heroes (hmmm)
Dates at Taco Zulu
(hmmm)
A helluva lot of cleaning (I'm talking serious cleaning)
Too many vodkas (my poor liver)

I really feel like just sleeping this weekend, but alas, I am off to Jozi for a weekend of friends, wind chill, shopping and music.
