Nathan

Let me introduce Nathan, my ca-ute little nephew… We took the boys to Essenwood market on Saturday, and managed to get him to sit still long enough to take some pics. He is so adorable and I love him so much. He isn't talking just yet, but he understands everything you say, and he is at the 'let me copy EVERYTHING my big brother does' stage. Gorgeous!

Watch this space for more cute kids…

Moving Pictures

I went to see Capote last Friday, and I so enjoyed it. The first scene, opening out onto the barren countryside, was so quietly spooky… I knew nothing about Truman Capote before this film, and his lifestyle just seemed so insane. Parties and champayne and cigarettes with Harper Lee, and then just going off for months on end to do research, then some time in Spain. I want his expense account! The portrayal of his subtle manipulation to get the information he wants is also quietly spooky. It's a good fillum, go watch it if you have the chance.

Now, more importantly I saw the trailer for DOT THE I as well on friday, and I can't wait to see it. I missed it last year at the Durban International Film Festival, so I gotta gotta see it. Oh BTW did I mention that it stars Gael Garcia Bernal? He is only the like (excuse me while my brain explodes) most gorgeous man on this planet. That is all.

Rock on!

Tuesday was Human Rights day, and that meant 2 things: a shorter week, and the Coca Cola Colab Massive Mix concert! We managed to get free golden circle tickets from a friend at Gallo, as you do. It's terrible to admit but I would never have bought tickets otherwise, especially after forking out for Robbie Williams (watch this space).
It was actually flippin' crazy the number of cool bands we got to see. The line up went as follows:

ABSA STADIUM, DURBAN
THE ROCK STAGE (15-30 minute changeovers)
11:30 Squeal
12:10 Seven Stone
12:50 Sitter
13:30 State Far Better
14:10 Spoonfeedas
14:50 Prime Circle
15:30 The Finkelstiens
16:20 Simple Plan -
I couldn't have named a Simple Plan song before tuesday, but geez louise, they were good! They even finished up with a Snoopy/Fiddy Cent rap number that was awesome. And at one stage they mentioned that they have a special place in their hearts for South America(?)
17:30 The Rasmus -
good I guess, just didn't know any of their music
18:40 Seether - blew my mind, I was expecting heavy metal and I couldn't believe how many awesome songs they had.
19:50 Collective Soul - good hey, but I was never really a fan. Real nineties rock stuff
22:15 Metallica - what can I say? just got a bit bored cos I knew, like, three songs. Bugger
00:40 The Parlotones - actually damn good, pity they didn't play earlier, we left 3 songs in

THE ELECTRONICA STAGE
18:00 Roger Goode
19:20 Stereo MCs
20:35 Audio Bullys
21:50 Fatboy Slim - I missed this for Metallica, big mistake I think
23:50 Flash Republic

It was a long day, but it was good fun checking out all the silly goths. They kill me! A LOT of bad eye make up and torn fishnets.

Till next time, rock on!

P.S. I have to thank Nadja and her trusty camera phone for the kick-ass pics

good girl

This pic was taken at a party we had at work the day before Voting Day. We had a such a fun time, with politically themed cocktails, my favourite being the Shabir-Shaker… Well, the party was a huge success, determined by the fact the Ross got naked at 8.30pm, a bit early for all that if you ask me! But the point I am making is that that was the last drink I've had in weeks. I've given up the old alcohol for Lent, and so far I'm doing very well. Had a close call yesterday when a beer called me, "Hey you there, pssst, aren't you thirsty?" I told him I wasn't interested…

It's been too long baby…

Jeepers, how time flies! I really has been a while since I gave a proper catch up… but here goes. Been really busy at work lately, Nick took a few weeks to visit the gays in London/New York, so I have felt the pressure a bit. But hes back now, so 'normality' will reign for the next few weeks, and then Jo is off to the UK for a month! And speaking of which, I booked my tickets to go on a London shopping spree in June. Fab-u-lous! Though I am starting to worry that maybe 2 weeks isn't enough time, it's gonna fly by! May look into a slight extension…
And good ol' Tracy will be joining me on the trip as well, and I'll make a traveller out of her if it's the last thing I do! Luckily London is easy enough to navigate with a tube map and some common sense.

Otherwise things are going great back at 112, I've kinda settled in to the garden cottage quite nicely, but I'm STILL not all unpacked. One day, one day. It's nice to have 'me' space, but I seem to have gone down on the cooking side… It's just so much effort for one person! At the moment my little bar fridge contains chicken polony, cheese, old broccoli and a leek. YOU try and rustle up an amazing dinner with that. I'm still waiting for my full size fridge/freezer, my dad was supposed to respray it AGES ago, and I'm not holding my breath.
Anyhoo… that's all for now!

Esse Organic Skin Care

Esse was born from a simple desire to produce pure organic skincare products, but I believe they have achieved something far more special.
All
base oils are pressed from certified organic or sustainably wild-sourced plants. So are the essential oils that are use for fragrance and for their therapeutic effects. They don’t use animal ingredients, alcohol or any other ingredients that they feel may irritate skin or have other health concerns. They don't test on animals nor do they use suppliers that do. None of the ingredients are sourced from genetically modified organisms and all products are free of parabens and petrochemicals. Wow!

Sourced purely from the earth’s plants, microbes and minerals - I can't think of think of anything better to put on my skin.
The range is stocked at The Breathing Space in Glenwood, everything is reasonably priced (R12 for a face mask sachet) and they have such a awesome fragrance. No yucky fake perfumey smells.

Sound Design

I was taking a gander at the Apple website today, and look what I found! Finally, a gorgeous, modern Hi-Fi that integrates your iPod in its design. Simple, clean lines - I love it! And do I even need to mention that it would look fab-u-lous in my lounge… Except, I don't even own an iPod yet! I know, its insanity.

It's about time Apple extended into home appliances, isn't it? Beautifully designed and integrated - the home/office of the future. And at least then, I won't turn into one of those people who can't even program the VCR, cos Apple products are always so user friendly.

Actually, until I saw this neat little Apple Hi-Fi, I had my eye on the Tivoli Audio Model One and Model Two. Gawd, these are they radio's I have been waiting for my whole life. So flippin mod, the design is timeless modernity.

In fact, I think both would be nice. An iPod Hi-Fi at home, and maybe a Model One on my desk at work. Yes. And so it shall be.

jefdesigns

jefdesigns is an Oregon based company specializing in painted wall graphics and lighting.
Joe Futschik designs and fabricates each product by hand. Wood, color, and light are intuitively translated into pure, modern, minimal objects of design.
Their guiding principle is that thoughtfully designed space evokes balance, purpose, order and harmony. And the sense of peace we achieve from such an environment affects us more than we know.

I would achieve a great sense of peace if I was to own some of his designs. I love the barcode stripes on the wood panelling, so cool man! It would look bomb-ass in my new kitchen, which brings me to why I have been so slack on the blogging side. I have been busy moving! And the unpacking never seems to end… I have taken over my parents garden cottage (let's see how long that lasts) and there is not much cupboard space, NOT good. I'll probably be finished unpacking in about 2 months at the rate I'm going.
